PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
January 20, 2010
A quorum being present, Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 7:20 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room of the Town Hall, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Margaret Byrnes, Paul Barry, Patricia Begley, Richard Begley, Mike Brinius, Victoria Brinius, Linda Carrasquillo, Bernard Corona, Vincent Parys, Susan Tukey.
ABSENT: Melodie Wilson.
EXCUSED: Charles Clarke.
ALSO PRESENT: Edward M. Dettore, Robin E. Parys, Clerk.
OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS/RESIDENTS TO SPEAK:
Commissioner Bernard Corona introduced Edward M. Dettore as his replacement for the VFW. Commissioner Corona will replace Commissioner Albert Doak for the DAV. Sadly, Commissioner Doak has passed away. Commissioner Susan Tukey made the motion to accept, 2nd by Commissioner Vincent Parys. MOTION: Passed.
A letter to the Mayor will be sent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Bernard Corona made the motion to accept the minutes of the November 18, 2009 meeting. Commissioner Mike Brinius 2nd.
MOTION: Passed.
CORRESPONDENCE: Chairperson Byrnes read a letter from the Beautification Commission thanking the Patriotic Commission for their participation with the 2009 Holiday Fest deliveries.
BILLS: Motion made by Commissioner Paul Barry to pay the clerk for the November 18 meeting. 2nd by Commissioner Victoria Brinius.
MOTION: Passed.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Commission budget is $13,164.88.
OLD BUSINESS: The Flag order will be placed with Action Flag Co. for 54 gross at a cost of $4,092.00 for delivery by April 1st.
Motion was made by Commissioner Mike Brinius to table the discussion of disposal of old flags until the February 17 metting. 2nd by Commissioner Richard Begley.
MOTION: Passed.
NEW BUSINESS: Election of officers. Commissioner Patricia Begley motion to re-nominate Margaret Byrnes as Chairperson. 2nd by Commissioner Susan Tukey. Commissioner Victoria Brinius motion to close nominations, 2nd by Commissioner Mike Brinius. MOTION: Passed. Commissioner Paul Barry motion to re-nominate Commissioner Patricia Begley as Vice-Chairperson. 2nd by Commissioner Vincent Parys. Commissioner Victoria Brinius motion to close nominations. MOTION: Passed.
Motion by Commissioner Patricia Begley to table election of Treasurer pending research. 2nd by Commissioner Susan Tukey. MOTION: Passed. Motion by Commissioner Victoria Brinius to table election of Secretary pending research. 2nd by Commissioner Vincent Parys. MOTION: Passed.
Miscellaneous: Chairperson Margaret Byrnes requested that the clerk draft a letter to the Mayor requesting the removal of Curtis Upton from the Commission due to his verbal resignation.
She also requested that the clerk send out the invitational letters for the 2010 Memorial Day Parade.
